Poll shows to amend Afghanistan Cyber Crime Law

KABUL (SW): Nai – Supporting Open Media in Afghanistan celebrating “Social Media Week” called upon the amendment of the draft of Afghanistan Cyber Crime Law, here in Kabul on Thursday.

Nai has based their call for the amendment of the Cyber Law on a survey which was announced during a gathering celebrating “Social Media Week”.

Nai authorities said that the survey is done with the participation of 1036 individuals most of whom proposed to amend the draft Law.

Abdul Mujib Khelwatgar, the director Nai, told the participants at the event that 83 per cent of the participants wish to amend the draft Cyber Crime Law where only 17 per cent accept the Law.

Some journalists have also criticized the draft Law for having ambiguous articles and urged the government to amend and remove the ambiguities of the Law before endorsing the draft.

Nai authorities showing concerns over the pressure of government on the media outlets said government officials have been fired from their positions for cooperating with media. According to Nai authorities, the head of Baghlan’s public hospital and a spokesman of one of security entities have been fired from their positions for giving information to media in past few days.

This comes as in July the Ministry of Justice introduced the draft of Afghanistan Cyber Crime Law. Abdul Basir Anwar, the Minister of Justice, on the occasion of introducing the draft Law had said that the Cyber Law is being introduced to Afghan legal system for the first time, lack of the Law will hamper the security and economy of the country.
