KABUL (SW): Representatives of a number of political parties on Sunday warned to boycott the elections if their demands are not met.

Dr. Mohaiuddin Mehdi, representative of the Jamiat-e-Islami party, and Bashir Ahmad Tahenej, representative of the Junbish-e-Islami party, said the Independent Election Commission (IEC) has told them in meetings it has no issues with their proposals, but the same are deemed impossible in front of the President.

The political parties have stressed forthcoming district and parliamentary elections should be held in time without any delay.

Meanwhile, Shah Hussain Murtazawi, deputy spokesman for the president, has clarified President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani in his meeting with leaders of the political parties assured their suggestions would be considered seriously.

Among the main demands of the political parties include ensuring all eligible voters get the chance to vote, curbing wastage of votes by transfer to other candidates, re-opening of closed polling stations, and providing offices at IEC to polling agents of the political parties.

Representatives of the political parties said they shared these demands with the president, but no actions have been taken so far.
