KABUL (SW) – Policemen in the capital Kabul on Saturday uprooted protest camps in front of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) set-up by the politicians dropped from the list of the candidates for the parliamentary election.
One such politician, Mariam Kofi, told Salam Watandar the government wants to silence the peoples' voice and oppress democracy in Afghanistan. She added before any action, the government should have convinced the eliminated politicians about reasons for their removal from the list. She claimed the Independent Election Complaint Commission has not acted with impartiality.
Qais Hassan, another candidate removed from the list, said the security officials removed the protesters by force that left ten protesters injured. He went on to say the security forces assaulted their tents, used tears gas to breakdown their protest and took away their food.
Meanwhile, Abdul Aziz, spokesperson for IEC, said all protest camps hindering operations of the electoral commission would be removed this week.
