NURISTAN (SW) – A number of policemen on the outer posts in Nuristan province have not been paid their salaries for the past four months, the provincial council members have claimed.
In conversation with Salam Watandar, a number of policemen in the remote Nur Garam and other remote districts, informed that they were used to delays for a couple of months, but now it has been four months since they are paid.
These policemen, who wished not to be named in the report, said they even got compelled on various occasions to bring food from home due to shortages in food supplies. Sources informed situation is particularly bad in Kamdesh, Bargemetal, Waigal, Doaab, Mandool and Nur Garam districts.
In the meantime, Umar Faruq, member of the provincial council, charged the police headquarters in Nuristan for deliberately delaying the salaries of the policemen.
However, Syed Abbas Sadaat, provincial police chief, has clarified the delay has been caused by the process of collecting biometric details of the policemen. He stressed, as soon as this process is completed, the outstanding dues would be cleared.
