‘Police extorting money from transporters in Jawzjan’

12/12/2018

SHEBERGHAN (SW) – Transporters on the Sheberghan – Mazar-e-Sharif highway have blamed security forces for taking bribes from them.

In conversation with Salam Watandar, a number of transporters said the security forces physically abuse them on the pretext of disregard to the uniform when they do not pay bribes. Kherullah and Asadullah, two such transporters, said the policemen are extorting AFN 100 to AFN 500 from each vehicle on the Sheberghan – Mazar-e-Sharif highway.

A local elder in Jawzjan, Abdul Hamim Samim, said poor management has paved way for everyone to extort money from transporters. He said this trend has seriously undermined the honor and respect of the security forces among the masses.

Commenting on this, Abdul Rehman Mehmodi, deputy governor of Jawzjan, said the questions relating to extortion should be asked from the corresponding security officials, and those responsible shold be held accountable.

We wished to have the views of the security officials in Jawzjan, but to no avail.
