SHEBERGHAN (SW): A well-placed source has told Salam Watandar the pro-Daesh rebels have the backing of district police chief in Qosh Tapa district.
The source, who wished not to be named owing to the gravity of the matter, informed that Ezatullah Wardam, the interim police chief for Qosh Tapa, and his relatives are arming the militants in the area. It was further noted that since Ezatullah has friendly ties with the former provincial police chief Rehmatullah Turkistani, he feels his post secure.
Turkistani, however, rejects these allegations, saying distribution of arms is done by the police intelligence units, not the district police headquarters.
Salam Watandar wished to have the view of Ezatullah on this matter, but repeated calls were not replied.
Faqir Mohammad Jawzjani, the new police chief for the province, declined to comment on reports about Qosh Tapa police chief collaborating with the militants. He, however, asserted that anyone found violating the law would be punished for it.
Qosh Tapa is one of the most insecure districts in the province where large numbers of the Taliban are active. Hefeezullah Nudra, a provincial council member, has said more than 50 villages are under the influence of the Taliban in this part of the country.
