TALOQAN (SW): Female prisoners in Takhar claim that they have been beaten by the prison police.
The prisoners told Salam Watandar that on Sunday, they protested in relation to the execution of the Presidential decree on “reprieves and pardons” which was issued several months ago, but were beaten by the prison police.
They said, on the orders prison warden the police officers beat them with whips and sticks.
The prisoners demand the execution of the president's “reprieves and pardons” decree which was issued several months ago on the occasions of the 8th of March, International Women's Day, the 8th anniversary of the Mujahidin’s victory and the Ramadan month, but have not yet been implemented.
Mahmoodul Hassan Shahidzada Ikrami, The general director of the prisons in Takhar province, however, said that the protesters were burning quilts in the prison, and if the police had not responded soon, the fire would have reached the houses in the vicinity of the prison. “The police beat only one or two of these women, that also when police were entering the prison yard, the women attacked the police”, justified Ikrami.
The general director of prisons in Takhar province said that more than 60 prisoners will be released from the prison based on the President’s decree, but the decree has not been communicated to the provincial prison authorities by the Administration Office of the President.
