KANDAHAR CITY (SW): Police patrolling on the Kandahar-Uruzgan highway have abandoned their outposts over delay in the payment of salaries.
A number of these protesting policemen told Salam Watandar protecting the country is their prime duty, but they cannot survive for too long without any salary. Khodadad and Shir Ahmad, two among the lot of disserting policemen, said they have families to run, and it is no more possible to feed them without salaries for the past six months.
Meanwhile, Dost Mohammad Nayab, Uruzgan governor’s spokesman, has confirmed 7 check posts including 4 in Uruzgan and 3 in Kandahar have been abandoned by the policemen.
Zia Durrani, spokesman for Kandahar police, however, has rejected the news. He said salaries have been paid to the policemen on time. “We have always prioritized payment of salary to the policemen on time in the remote districts of the country”, he said.
