KABUL (SW): The National Environment Protection Agency (NEPA) on Saturday pronounced the levels of Particulate Matter (PM) or particle pollution in the air in Kabul to be alarmingly high.
Ghulm Mohammad Malikyar, deputy director of the NEPA, told a gathering in this regard that the PM levels in Kabul have surged to 350 – 596 micrometers, which is worrying.
He added that the air in Kabul particularly reaches height of pollution in winter when its inhabitants burn all sorts of things to keep them warm. Malikyar also blamed dusty roads and low-quality petroleum products for the growing air pollution in Kabul.
The NEPA has recently procured 14 new machines to monitor the states of air, noise and water pollution. The Agency has invested $ 27,000 on these machines from its development budget. It is hoped these machine would help monitor and curb pollution.
