KABUL (SW): Hekmat Khalil Karzai, Deputy Minister for Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said the first phase of United Nations Security Council’s Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security would be implemented efficiently provided there is political determination, financial mechanism and a good coordination between the implementing bodies.

United Nations Security Councils Resolutions 1325 is in fact an international document, which is focused on women, peace and security. Governments that are signatory to it are obliged to implement and consolidate this resolution in their related countries. The resolution was approved back in 2000.

Afghanistan ratified it in 2001 and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hence is obliged to develop a plan to implement the resolution under the name of (Practical National Program for Women, Peace and Security).

At the first meeting about it on Sunday, Hekmat Khalil said that the program will be implemented within 8 years in two different phases and each phase will take four years. The implementers of the program should prioritize activities and predicate their estimated budget in order to implement it.

Khujasta Fana Ebrahim Kheyl, Head of Human Rights and International Affairs at the MoFA, has said about the program that it would increase women’s participation at the high level decision making and would provide opportunity for women.

She added that to implement the resolution there is a need for equal division of responsibilities at the government and non- government’s institutions.

Earlier during the inauguration of the Resolution 1325 in Afghanistan, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani promised that he would consider enough budget for implementation of this program.
