KABUL (SW): Security forces in an unprecedented measure set-up piles of containers across the city to block all the roads leading to Arg (Presidential Palace) on Monday in a bid to stop the protestors entering the sensitive areas.
Hundreds of residents in the capital Kabul waited for hours to find a way to pass through the blocked roads, which also included government employees, patients and private sector employees. They blamed the government for being too tough to ensure the security.
Ahmad Reshad, a resident who works for the Ministry of Economy, begged the security forces to allow him to get to his work but security forces did not allow him.
He got angry and said to the security forces that the government has warned that if the employee is absent he would be introduced to judicial institutions.
Another man who was carrying a bag said that he walked long distance to get to Malalai Maternal Hospital but he was still not allowed to go to the hospital.
He said that the government only ensures the security of high ranking officials by setting up such obstacles on the roads.
He believed that the government is not capable to ensure the security of the ordinary citizens.
Asadullah Yousufi, a university lecturer, who was present in the demonstration on Monday, said that the government has erected the containers for the fear it has just created for itself. He said that the demonstration was quite civil.
Setting up containers in the roads near Arg also caused reactions in the social media in particular Facebook.
Social media users said that it is not acceptable when a government claims of democracy yet resort to such measure to civil demonstrations.
