KABUL (SW): Afghanistan Football Federation (AFF) has acquired the services of Petar Segrt, Croatian-born German coach and former football defender to serve as head coach for the Afghan side.
Previously, Peter has served as head coach of Bosnia and Herzegovina's Premier League club NK Zvijezda Gradacac among other clubs. The 49-year old is an accredited coach certified by the UEFA, the governing body of football in Europe.
Mustafa Mirzad, spokesman for the AFF told Salam Watandar that contract was signed with Peter Saturday evening. The new head coach for the Afghan squad quit playing on the field following an injury in 1993. He then started coaching at different clubs.
For his outstanding career as coach and providing many new stars to the game, Peter is also named as architect of the game.
He has replaced another German-Bosnian Slaven Skeledzic as head coach for the Afghan side. Under Salaven’s coaching, the Afghan team played eight international matches out of which it won only two, equalized one and lost five.
In World Cup 2018 qualifying rounds, Afghanistan would take on Cambodia on November 12 in Tehran, Iran.
