FAIZABAD (SW): Head of the Jamiat-e-Islami party, foreign minister Salahuddin Rabbani has warned that people would take things in their hand if the National Unity Government (NUG) failed to bring reforms.
Addressing a gathering in Badakhshan in connection with the death anniversary of his father Burhanuddin Rabbani, the Jamiat leader criticized monopoly of power in the NUG. He said that those who are making decisions without taking people’s consent into account, and do not pay attention towards reforming the system are committing a big mistake. Rabbani said neglecting the people's demand for fundamental reforms in the system poses a threat to the achievements of the past decade.
Questioning the fate of upcoming elections, Rabbani said matters related to budget, registration and polling constituencies remain vague that suggest that the responsible institutions are not capable of holding transparent elections. .
Bismillah Mohammadi, former defense minister and a member of Jamiat party, said the current government is the main cause of the crisis in Afghanistan, and it has not implemented the agreement that led to its formation.
The sixth death anniversary of Burhanuddin Rabbani, the former leader of the Jamiat party, comes at a time when criticism directed towards the NUG is on the rise.
