Pensioners not paid pension for months

30/12/2018

KABUL (SW) – A number of retired public sector employees in Kabul said they have not received pension for the past many months.

In conversation with Salam Watandar, a number of pensioners said they have been shuttling between the Ministry of Finance, directorate of pension and the Islamic Bank, but to no avail.

Shareef, a son of a pensioner, said he has been making rounds around these government offices for months to get pension for his father, but the issue remains to be unresolved. He said the directorate of pension has told him that the payment has been transferred, but the bank said the payment has not reached it due to a technical issue at the ministry of finance.

However, Shamroz Khan Masjidi, spokesman for the MoF, told Salam Watandar that this ministry signed a deal with the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs last year that was aimed at registering biometric details of all pensioners. He added this process is yet to be completed. The spokesman said the pension money, however, has been sent to the MoLSA.

He said the pensioners would be paid the pension money next year based on the biometric verification. We wished to have the views of the MoLSA, but to no avail.
