HERAT CITY (SW): Taliban era’s ambassador to Pakistan Mullah Abdul Salam Zaef has stated that peace process in Afghanistan is not an Afghan-led process.
Speaking at the Herat Security Dialogue, Zaef urged that peace talks should be held amongst the Afghan groups without any ‘foreign interference’. Commenting on recent peace deal signed between Hizb-i-Islami and the Afghan government, Zaef said that the government’s move for peace would encourage other insurgent groups to join the peace process as well.
Meanwhile, Rangin Dadfar Spanta, the former National Security Advisor, said that Afghanistan’s strategy for restoring peace has not been functional so far. Spanta added that permanent peace cannot be gained unless this dysfunctional strategy is changed.
The former National Security Advisor sated that Pakistan is still a hideout for terrorists. He added that Pakistan’s establishment is against a peaceful Afghanistan.
