10/10/2018

KABUL (SW) – Leaders and representatives of political parties on Wednesday gathered here for a consultation meeting on peace process.

Addressing the moot, Yonus Qanooni, leader of the Peace and Salvation Concil, said there is a national consensus for peace, and now there is a need for efforts to reach peaceful settlement through a clear mechanism. He stressed all citizens have the right to be aware of the peace process mechanism.

Anwarul Haq Ahadi, leader of the Grand National Alliance of Afghanistan, said on his term there is a national and international consensus. He also called for clear mechanism for peace talks with the Taliban.

Karim Khuram, former secretary for former president, Hamid Karzai, argued Iran and Russia should also be engaged in the peace process for Afghanistan. Amrullah Saleh, former intelligence chief, suggested the peace process should be spearheaded by an all-inclusive entity.

This comes following the trip to Kabul by Zalmay Khalilzad, Special U.S. Envoy for Afghanistan Reconciliation.
