KABUL (SW) – The second vice-president, Mohammad Sarwar Danesh, has said peace without Afghan ownership is one-sided and impractical, and so far the peace process between the U.S. and Taliban representatives has not involved Afghanistan.
He was speaking in Kabul on the 12th anniversary of the assassination of Sayed Mustafa Kazemi, the former parliamentarian, and a number of MPs assassinated over a decade ago. He said peace process without the Afghan ownership is not possible to implement. He added this should be ensured in talks between the U.S. and the Taliban.
He added confidence building measures should be in place between the Taliban and the Afghan government. Danish added ceasefire is pivotal in a bid to pave way for the release of Taliban prisoners. He added time has changed, and now only the government can take decisions in regard to peace and war rather than groups and political parties.
He urged all political parties and group to unite under the government in this regard.
About the presidential polls, he said no group has the right to influence the electoral commission. Danish said there is no need for an interim government, and soon a newly elected government would take the peace process forward.
Speaking on the occasion, former vice president, Mohammad Younus Qanooni, said peace is pivotal, and all the government as well as other political forces should strive to remove impediments in the way of peace.
