Peace activists demand an end to fighting season

20/04/2019

JALALABAD (SW) – Members of the Public Movement for Peace on Saturday staged a protest demonstration against the new season of fighting between the Taliban and the security forces.

They dubbed the ‘Khalid’ security operation announced by the government as well as the ‘Al-Fath’ operation announced by the Taliban as deadly for the civilian population. They urged both sides to shun violence and embrace peace.

Two such members of the peace movement, Attaullah and Maroof, told Salam Watandar they are against both ‘Khalid’ and ‘Al-Fath’ as both of them result in more bloodshed in the country. They stressed both sides should instead invest their energy and resources in reaching a peace agreement.

The protesters also urged the Taliban to engage in direct talks with the Kabul government inside Afghanistan instead of holding meetings in Moscow and Qatar.
