SHARANA (SW): Paktika residents on Monday took to the streets in the provincial capital Sharana against a deadly clash last night between the security forces.
Last night, some members of the police’s reserve unit and policemen of the first zone police station engaged in deadly clashes. The protesters said they fear such internal differences among the security forces create a security vacuum providing an opportunity for the militants to exploit. They called for investigation into the incident, and justice in this regard.
Aryan, spokesman for the provincial police headquarters, informed that the commanders of the related check posts and the policemen engaged in the incident have been taken into custody. He said proper investigations have begun into the incident.
Dr. Chinar Gul, head of the public hospital in Sharana, informed Salam Watandar that three men, including a civilian and two policemen, got killed in the exchange of fire, and 20 others got wounded. Seven of the wounded people are civilians, including children.
The clash erupted near the Martyrs Square last evening, and continued for an hour.
