Pakistan’s ISI blamed for attack on police HQ in Baghlan

BAGHLAN (SW) – Governor of Baghlan Ahmad Fareed Baseem has blamed Pakistan’s spy agency ISI for orchestrating deadly assault on police headquarters here.

In a press conference a day after the attack, the governor confirmed 18 policemen got killed and more than 50 security forces and civilians got injured in the attack on Sunday. He vowed the security forces would soon take revenge of this attack from the Taliban.

The Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attack.

A number of armed insurgents wearing suicide vests stormed the police headquarters in Pul-i-Khumri city after a suicide attack at the entrance at around noon time. Fighting continued between the security forces and the attackers for hours.

According to the Ministry of Interior Affairs, all eight attackers were killed by the security forces. According to the MoI 13 security forces got killed and 55 others including 35 security forces got injured following exchange of gunfire.

A source at the directorate of health, however, said 21 dead bodies of the security forces and 66 wounded people including women and children were brought to the public hospital.

President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has condemned this attack. In a statement issued by Arg (presidency), Ghani said the terrorists committed this heinous act of violence at the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan, which calls for peace and harmony.

The President said the security forces would bravely fight and crush those terrorists that target and harm civilians.
