ASADABAD (SW) – Local officials in Kunar confirmed a number of Pakistani militant outfits have established bastions in the mountainous parts of the province.
Mohammad Rehman Danish, governor of Dangaam district, said this poses grim threat to the security of the whole province. He added the militants are involved in attacks on security check posts as well as threats directed at the local population.
A number of local elders said Pakistan’s Lashkar-e-Tayaba, Jaish-e-Mohammad and al-Badar militant g roups have established bastions in the mountains of Kunar close to the Durand Line.
When contacted, the provincial governor’s spokesman, Ghani Musmim, said soon operations would be launched to dismantle these bastions.
According to the locals, these groups were active in the province before as well, but they established their bastions just recently following string of unprovoked shelling by the Pakistani forces.
