Pakistan to announce counter-policy on U.S.’s new strategy for Afghanistan

31/08/2017

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Pakistan's new prime minister, said in a meeting on Wednesday with the country's National Security Committee that he has tasked a working group with preparing the policy.

Following the announcement of the U.S. strategy for Afghanistan and South Asia, this is the second time the new prime minister of Pakistan has met with his National Security Committee discussing U.S.’s new strategy.

According to the Dawn news, the Islamabad Strategy outlines all the milestones and positions of Pakistan with the countries of the region and the United States.

It is said that Islamabad hosts its ambassadors from September 5-7 for the sake of developing this policy.

Meanwhile, the Pakistani National Assembly condemned U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent speech on the new strategy, who had said Islamabad is the reason for the prolonged war in Afghanistan, calling it "hostile" and "threatening".

Recently, relations between Islamabad and Washington have become tumultuous. Pakistani Foreign Minister Khwaja Asif Asif had previously called for Islamabad to cancel unexpected visits by U.S. officials.
