KABUL (SW) – Analysts believe the perceptions about Pakistan being isolated in the international arena have proven false.
Following a meeting between Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan and the U.S. President Donald Trump in the White House, analysts believe the perceptions about Islamabad being under pressure from Washington also proved wrong.
Intezar Khadem, an analyst on political affairs, said Afghanistan has a weak and inconsiderate diplomatic team that failed to lobby on behalf of the country. He said Afghan diplomats particularly in important capitals such as Washington D.C, London and the U.N. are young and inexperienced.
In the views of another expert on political affairs, Shah Baz, Pakistan remains a key strategic ally of the U.S. He added foreign powers are poised to gamble over the fate of Afghanistan. He added Afghan politicians and officials have failed to nurture strategic ties with the U.S.
However, Ajmal Hodman, expert on legal affairs, argued Pakistan remains under immense international pressure. He said Pakistan has been forced by the U.S. to help push the Taliban for peace talks. He said pressure from Afghanistan also played a role in this regard.
Ahead of a Monday meeting with Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, Trump told reporters at the White House that he could win the war in Afghanistan in just one week, but would not because he did not want millions to die.
"I don’t want to kill 10 million people," he said, adding: "I have plans on Afghanistan that if I wanted to win that war, Afghanistan would be wiped off the face of the earth, it would be gone, it would be over in literally 10 days", he said.
