ISLAMABAD (SW): Pakistan’s security forces are conducting an internal inquiry to investigate recent Afghan allegations of Pakistan's implicit involvement in Kabul attacks, Dawn news claimed on Thursday.
This comes at a time when a high-level Afghan delegation visited Islamabad to convey the Kabul government message. String of bombings in Kabul and northern Kunduz province killed more than 70 people between Friday and Monday that prompted the Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani’s to question Pakistan’s will in counter-terrorism efforts.
Afghanistan’s spy agency has claimed Pakistan Army was involved in the attacks that were carried out by the Haqqani network.
Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs and National Security Sartaj Aziz on Thursday met the Afghan delegation led by Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani. During the talks, the local media reported that Pakistan assured Afghan officials that if any evidence linking Pakistan to the recent wave of attacks in Kabul is found, it will duly be shared with Afghanistan.
Pakistan emphasized that allegations on Islamabad of sponsoring or abetting attacks on Kabul were “regretful.”
“Pakistan and Afghanistan should have trust and faith in each other and discourage detractors who have been trying to create mistrust between the two brotherly countries,” Sartaj Aziz was quoted saying by the local media.
“Pakistan stands in solidarity with the fraternal people of Afghanistan and would continue to extend all possible support in their quest for peace and stability in Afghanistan, including through facilitating an Afghan-led and Afghan owned peace and reconciliation process,” the adviser added.
