BAMYAN CITY (SW) – Poverty and cultural restrictions in Bamyan have left over 20,000 children out of schools.
Based on the statistics provided by the directorate of education over 172,000 children are eligible to be enrolled in schools. This comprises of 53 per cent boys and 47 per cent girls.
Ayub Arwen, head of the directorate of education, told Salam Watandar some 16 per cent of these children are deprived of joining schools. He said this means over 23, 000 children, including over 14,000 girls are unable to join schools. Head of the directorate said most of these children are from the Punjab, Kohmard, Ros and Yaka Walang districts.
The local civil society activists believe rough terrain and lack of efforts by the directorate of education have further aggravated the situation in this regard.
Based on the Ministry of Education estimates, a total of over 3.7 million children are deprived of education nationwide due to poverty, insecurity and other impedements.
