KABUL (SW) – The Independent Election Commission (IEC) announced on Saturday more than 2000 polling center would be closed throughout the country during the forthcoming presidential election.
Hava Alam Nuristani, head of the IEC, told a presser there are a total of 7,385 poling centers throughout the country, but only 5,383 would be active and 2,002 would remain closed due to insecurity.
According to Ms. Nuristani out of 406 polling centers in Ghazni province only 247 would be active and 159 other polling centers would be closed.
According to the Independent Election Commission (IEC), most polling stations would remain closed in Farah, Kunduz, Ghazni, Helmand, Jawzjan, Zabul and Sar-i-Pul provinces.
In Farah province, out of 224 polling centers only 50 would be active. In Kunduz province out of 220 polling centers only 98 are active. In Helmand province, out of a total of 247 polling centers, 97 would be active while in Jawzjan province there would be 60 polling stations closed out of the total of 129. In Zabul province only 43 polling centers would be active out of a total of 100.
The Independent Election Commission (IEC) announced last week it is facing an upheaval task of holding presidential polls on Sep. 28.
