KABUL, JALALABAD, SHARANA (SW): Afghan officials on Wednesday claimed to have eliminated over 150 armed rebels during ground offensives and aerial strikes in various provinces across the country.
Ahmad Zia Abdulzai, spokesman for the Nangarhar governor has confirmed at least six air strikes in the Haska Meena area last evening. He claimed 60 rebels were eliminated in the attack. The Taliban or pro-Daesh rebels have not confirmed the incident. It is vital to note many districts in this eastern province have been witnessing fights between various rebel groups lately.
Elsewhere, a Haqqani network commander and his six comrades have been reported dead in the Paktika province. Local officials told SW a drone targeted militants’ hideout in the Barmal district last evening.
Confirming the incident, Nabiullah Pirkhail, spokesman for the provincial governor said the commander Mullah Sultan and his six fellows were targeted. Pirkhail claimed these militants were long wanted for their terrorist activities in the area.
Separately, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) stated that the government forces attacked insurgent’s hideout in Nowzad district of southern Helmand province Wednesday morning in which 21 armed insurgents were killed.
In a separate report, the Coalition Forces launched an air strike in the Qasim Bazar region, Marjah district in Helmand. As a result, two local commanders of armed insurgents were killed, the MoI said.
During the past 24 hours, several joint operations were conducted with the Afghan National Army (ANA) and National Directorate for Security (NDS) in Nangarhar, Laghman, Parwan, Takhar, Kunduz, Faryab, Sar-e-Pul, Balkh, Zabul, Oruzgan, Maidan Wardak, Ghazni, Khost, Paktiya and Helmand provinces, as a result 88 armed insurgents were killed and 16 others were wounded, it added,
