
PUL-I-KHUMRI/TARINKOT (SW): More than 100 members of the Afghan National Security and Defense Forces (ANSDF) under the siege of the Taliban in Baghlan have been rescued while a complete battalion has reportedly surrendered to the militants in Uruzgan.
Safdar Mohseni, chairman of the provincial council, has confirmed that these security personnel were under the siege of the Taliban in the Qarghan hill area in the Dand-e-Ghori locality. He added that a special operation was conducted by the security forces in collaboration with the local anti-Taliban force to liberate these men.
These security personnel were under the militants’ siege for some eight days, and the Taliban pushed them to surrender.
Amirgul Hassankhel, the police chief in the province has confirmed the development. He added that the clean-up operation is still underway against the Taliban. Hassankhel added that as many as 11 militants have been killed and 13 more wounded in this operation so far.
Elsewhere, a complete battalion of the Afghan National Civil Order Police (ANCOP) has reportedly surrendered to the Taliban in southern Uruzgan province. A source who wished not to be named in the report told Salam Watandar that this 75-member battalion was under the siege of the Taliban in Karna area some 20 kilometers away from the provincial capital Tarinkot.
Ghulam Hazrat Kakar, a commander of the Afghan National Army (ANA)’s 205-Maiwand Corps, has said that their contact with this ANCOP battalion are disrupted for the past two days now. The Taliban on the other hand, have claimed that these men along with arms, ammunition and police vehicles have surrendered to them.
