KABUL (SW) – The security operation to arrest Karamuddin Karim, the former head of Afghanistan Football Federation who is charged with multiple sexual assaults, has ended in failure in Panjshir province.
Local sources said they were not involved in the operation.
Rahela Atai, deputy head of the Panjshir provincial council, said the raid on residence of Karamuddin was not the right solution. She said that security forces should have arrested Karim by other means.
Karim's family members told Salam Watandar that the military operation had caused panic among them and that civilians had been injured in the shootings.
The operation led to closure of main roads leading to the province
The security operation on Karamuddin Karim's house has also met with a sharp reaction from a number of residents of the province. Local officials in the province say they will hold a meeting on this matter.
Karamuddin Karim, the former president of the AFF, was banned from football and sports activities last year for sexually harassing five female footballers.
It is worth mentioning that President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani called on Abdullah Abdullah, Chairman of the Supreme Council of National Reconciliation and the people of Panjshir, to expel Karamuddin Karim from Panjshir.
