One ton of explosives seized at Torkham crossing point

JALALABAD (SW) – Security forces on Tuesday seized a truck containing at least one ton of explosives that crossed from Pakistan to Afghanistan via the Torkhan crossing point.

Shah Mehmood Miakhail, governor of Nangarhar province, told journalists the truck was seized in the Torkham township when it crossed over from Pakistan. He added, two suspects have also been arrested in connection with the explosives.

Director NDS in Nangarhar, Nazar Ali Wahidi, said the suspects wished to transport the explosives to Kabul when they were intercepted in Torkham.

Speaking to the media on the occasion, one of the suspects, Afsar Khan said he loaded the explosives on his truck from Haji Camp and Abdullah Ada area in Peshawar. He added some of it were destined to be offloaded in Nangarhar and the rest in Kabul.

It is worth noticing, security forces in Herat province intercepted similar consignment of some 3.5 tons of explosives in Herat a day earlier.
