KABUL (SW) – After consultations for many days, a 250-member delegation has been named to represent Afghanistan in talks between the U.S. and the Taliban in Qatar.
A list issued by the presidency has the names of political figures, Jihadi leaders, civil society activists, women, parliamentarians, youth representatives, officials and local elders. The talks in Doha are likely to commence in three days’ time.
Previously, Abdul Salam Rahimi, head of Office of the President, led an official delegation to hold talks with the Taliban. However, the Taliban did not approve of it for talks.
The Taliban have asserted all individuals going to hold talks with them in Doha are not seen as representatives of the Afghan government. They claim these talks in the Qatari capital are going to be held in a conference, and are not the peace talks.
