Number of COVID-19 patients surge to 5,226

KABUL (SW) – The Ministry of Public Health has said that in the past 24 hours, out of 619 samples taken from people suspected of contracting the coronavirus, the results of 259 tests in 24 provinces have been positive.

Wahid Majrooh, the ministry's deputy director for health services, told a news conference that the number of people infected with the coronavirus virus across the country has risen to 5,226.

According to him, 5 patients died and 42 others recovered last night, including a specialist doctor in Herat. A total of 648 patients have been confirmed positive and 132 others have died so far, according to the Ministry of Public Health.

Majrooh added that 49 people have been infected last night in Balkh, 29 in Kandahar, 27 in Kabul, 25 in Takhar, 23 in Nangarhar and 22 in Herat.

According to him, the test results of ten people each in Kunar and Parwan, eight in Badghis, seven in Jawzjan, six each in Baghlan and Maidan Wardak and Logar, 5 in Daikundi, 5 in Panjshir, 4 in Faryab, 3 in Zabul, 3 in Kunduz and 3 in Nimroz, two each in Farah, Helmand and Bamyan and one in Ghor and Laghman have also been positive.

So far, the number of people infected with the coronavirus worldwide has reached to 4,342,000. More than 292,000 people have died and more than 1.602 million have been treated.
