KABUL (SW): Representatives of the National Union of Afghanistan Workers and Employees (NUAWE) staged a protest demonstration on Sunday against the government’s move of confiscating the Union’s property.
Members of the NUAWE from all over the country took part in this protest demonstration in front of the Union head office in Kabul. Head of the NUAWE, Marouf Qaderi, said on the occasion that the Union’s offices in provinces are under pressure from the police, and in the capital Kabul, people close to the Presidential palace are involved in 'grabbing' its property.
At the end, the protestors issued a statement noting that the government is violating all international norms and labor treaties to take control of its properties. It further charged the government of freezing the union’s accounts and not renewing its license. The UNAWE claimed all property possessed by it is bought with financial contributions from its members.
Meanwhile, the government has asserted that in line with the cabinet decision, all property in control of the UNAWE is state property, and should be handed over to the relevant institutions.
