KABUL (SW) – The National Security Adviser, Mohammad Haneef Atmar, has resigned from his post citing differences at the top level.
According to media reports, Qadir Shah, spokesman for the NSA, has confirmed the development. In a letter circulating in the social media, Atmar has rendered his resignation citing differences with the government over matters related to peace, national unity, election and regional as well as world affairs. In the letter, Atmar also thanked the president for having trust in him for four years
Spokesman for the president, Haroon Chakhansuri, has noted in a Facebook post the Afghan Ambassador to the U.S. Hamdullah Muhib, has been appointed as the new NSA.
Atmar has been considered as a powerful figure in the National Unity Government.
