KANDAHAR CITY (SW): Special Forces of the Afghan National Army (ANA) have nabbed a notorious Taliban commander Mullah Muhibullah in Kandahar.
Muhibullah is said to be a key Taliban commander in this part of the country. Zia Durrani, spokesman for the provincial police department told Salam Watandar that the militant commander was arrested in the ninth district near the Malalai Clinic area in Kandahar City. He added ample amount of explosives have also been confiscated from Mullah Muhibullah’s custody.
This comes at a time when the ANA’s 205-Attal Corps is busy in “Shafaq-2” Operation against the militants in the province’s Nesh district. Khan Ali Ahmadi, spokesman for the 205-Attal Corps told Salam Watandar that as many as 50 armed rebels have been killed and four more captured in these offensives.
The Taliban have not commented in this regard so far. It is worth noticing that Nesh borders Urzugan province. Last month, the Taliban killed 23 civilians here.
Separately, deputy commander of the Afghan National Police (ANP) in Nesh district has been killed in a targeted attack in Kandahar city. A security source told Salam Watandar that armed men riding a motorcycle opened fire on Abdullah, deputy commander of police in Nesh and his cousin Khuda Dad. Both men succumbed to the wounds in hospital.
No group or individual has claimed responsibility for the attack.
