“Not the right time to protest over TUTAP”

15/05/2016

KABUL (SW): The Council of Political and Jihadi parties (CPJP) has proposed to mediate between the government and the protestors over the dispute regarding the Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TUTAP) route.

The CPJP leaders told journalists in Kabul on Sunday that they have been striving to convince the Hazara community leaders not to proceed with the mass protest and urging the government to hold the project for a while.

Sayed Hamid Gillani, the CPJP spokesman said such rallies are not in favor of the country under the prevailing situation. He suggested that a consensus should be achieved over the matter at hand via mediation, and CPJP is willing to play the role of the mediator in this matter.

“The Council of Political and Jihadi parties urge upon all the citizens across the country to avoid protest rallies, God forbid! The enemy might take advantage of the situation and lead to violence and misery”, he cautioned.

Protests emerged over TUTAP when the Hazara community raised objections over the government’s plans to route the TUTAP via the Salang Pass. They are pushing the government to choose central Bamiyan province instead. The government, on the other hand, believes Salang Pass is affordable, convenient and electricity would be provided to Bamiyan in any case besides the donor agency too is inclined towards this route.
