KABUL (SW) – The Ministry of Defense (MoD) has noted all Taliban rebels who entered government-controlled areas did not return to their bastions after the end of ceasefire.
Mohammad Radmanesh, spokesman for the MoD, informed Salam Watandar many Taliban rebels entered main cities and towns during the ceasefire declared by the government during Eid. He informed some 2400 such rebels surrendered their arms at the entrance points to cities and towns, and many have stayed there.
“The defense and security forces are paying full attention to the peace and security of the people…we do not have the exact figures [of the Taliban who entered and left or stayed] now, but would share it with the media once they are available”.
In the meantime, spokesman for the High Peace Council, Syed Ehsan Tahiri, has also confirmed that many Taliban rebels did not return to their bastions of war, and instead stayed in the cities. He welcomed the rebels who shun violence and are willing to live peaceful lives. The HPC spokesman said the government should help them reintegrate.
