NILI (SW): Officials in central Daikundi province have expressed concerns over growing drug addiction among females.
Zakiya Rezai, the head of Women’s Affairs Department said that the department would do its best to identify and then cure the addicted females.
Rezai warned that if this issue is not addressed, it would pose significant threat to the lives of the addicted women.
In the meantime, Qurban Elham, the head of Public Health Department in the province stated that efforts would be made to reduce and prevent addiction in Daikundi soon.
Concerns over females’ drug addiction are rising in Daikundi in the wake of poor public health services in the province. There is only one center for the drug addicts in the whole province and that center avoids treating female addicts.
A number of women in the province have asked the government to establish a health center for female drug addicts.
Aqilla Nawrozi, a resident of Daikundi, said: “We are fully worried about the situation female addicts are currently faced with. I urge the government to help establish a health center for female addicts in Daikundi”.
The officials at the Counter Narcotics Department of Daikundi, on the other hand, have asked the Ministry of Counter Narcotics to help them in this regard.
Safdar Zarie, the director to Law Implementation Department in Daikundi stated that to prevent addiction among women, it has launched an awareness campaign in the province.
A rough survey conducted by the health center in Daikundi indicates that there are around 500 women who are drug addicts. The number of female addicts are larger in Sangtakht, Bandar, Kiti and Sahristan districts of Daikundi province. Social violence, depression and the use of drug by male partners are considered the main factors behind female’s addiction.
