CHAGCHRAN (SW) – Not a single road has been asphalted in the Ghor province for years due to alleged negligence of the government, the local civil society has asserted.
Some 12 kilometers of roads were asphalted in the central Feroz Koh city by the provincial reconstruction teams with the financial support worth around $ eight million by foreign donors seven years ago. According to the civil society activists, not a single road has been asphalted since. They claim the previously constructed roads too need reconstruction.
The local civil society has urged the Ghor municipality to pay serious attention to this matter, and ensure swift reconstruction of the roads here.
Mohammad Arif Qazizada, mayor for the Feroz Koch city, said in this regard the ragging insecurity and lack of machinery are hindering reconstruction of the damaged roads. He, however, promised soon all the roads would be reconstructed.
Spokesman for the provincial governor, Abdul Hai Khatibi, has lamented that the Ghor province has a lower share for development projects. He said the locals staged massive protest rallies for the construction of dam and main highway, but to no avail.
