SHARANA (SW): Despite significant spread of private sector education nation-wide, the Paktika province remains deprived of even a single private school here.

The local residents and civil society activists lament the fact the government has not paid attention towards this matter, and zero investment by private sector in the education sector and poor state of awareness have led to this situation.

Ismael Nusrat, a local civil society activist, informed Salam Watandar private sector is equally responsible for not bothering to invest in private schools in Paktika. He urged the government to pave way for investment in the education sector.

Ainuddin Saeed, administrator of a private education institute, also underlined the importance of private high-schools in the province. He added the students here are inclined towards private schools due to the relatively good standards of education.

The deputy head for the directorate of education, Mohammad Naseem, acknowledged the problem. In conversation with Salam Watandar, he promised the government is ready to support those seeking to invest in the education sector. He also announced about launching a public awareness campaign for this purpose.

As per official figures, two private schools are registered in Paktika, and soon they would be upgraded to the level of high-school.

This comes as up to half of the public sector schools in Paktika lack proper infrastructure.
