KABUL (SW): The unseated governor of Balkh province, Atta Mohammad Noor, has warned to hold mass public rallies from 15 provinces later this month.
He expressed this after reports about stalemate in talks between the Arg (Presidential Palace) and his Jamiat-e-Islami party over issues related to the new biometric identity cards, his position, holding of the Loya Jirga (grand council) for amending the Constitution, and shares for parties in the forthcoming elections.
Addressing his supporters in Mazar-e-Sharif, Noor said these public rallies would ‘set the destiny of the nation, and straighten the backs of the Arg dwellers’. He said ten thousand cars from different provinces would march towards Kabul, and create history.
About security for this rally, Noor said no one would allowed to undermine the security of the participants with closure of link roads joining the main highway leading to Kabul.
President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani approved the resignation of Noor some two months ago, but the unseated governor opposed the move saying his resignation was conditional, and hence the conditions are not met, he would not step down.
