KABUL (SW): Leaders of the nomads’ welfare council lamented on Sunday that some people in the country still deem them as a threat.
Dilawar Faizan, head of the council, told a gathering in the capital in this connection that the nomad community is deprived of many basic services including health, education and others. Considering the population of the nomad community, he said the existing seven high schools are not sufficient for them.
Dilawar stressed the government should help reclaim their grazing lands in various provinces from the powerful individuals who have encroached upon them.
He lamented that despite the fact that the nomad community play key role in economic development in various sectors, many people in the country still deem them as a threat. Dilawar underlined the need for more effective education and enlightenment of this secluded community via special radio programs.
About clashes between the nomad and local community in Maidan Wardak’s Behsud district, Dilawar said mediating efforts have yield some positive results.
The nomads’ welfare council chief informed the gathering that the President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has assured them of at least three new high schools in different provinces and new townships for the nomad community.
