Nomads block Kabul – Logar highway

09/01/2018

PUL-I-ALAM (SW): Hundreds of nomad community members on Tuesday blocked the main highway linking capital Kabul with Khost, Logar and Paktia provinces.

The highway was blocked in the Alamtoor area for hours close to Pul-I-Alam city. The protesters said their community members in Khost province have been denied access to Khost city for over two weeks, and in retaliation they have blocked this highway.

Locals in Khost’s Babrak Tana and Ali Sher areas have stopped the nomads from entering Khost city over land dispute.

Two nomad community members Haji Mohammadullah and Rehmatullah told Salam Watandar that they would keep the highway linking the capital Kabul with Khost, Logar and Paktia provinces blocked until their community members are not given access to Khost city. They claimed the disputed land in Khost belongs to them since decades.

Hukum Khan Habibi, governor of Khost, visited the protesters in Logar, and assured them their issues would be resolved. He said a delegation of 83 men from Kabul has been tasked by the President to look into the issue, and resolve it. He urged the nomad community members to play their role in resolving the issue via talks instead of blocking highways.
