Nomads and Khost residents engage in feud over land

KHOST CITY (SW): A feud over land in Khost province has sparked concerns over an armed clash between the locals and nomads.

Representatives of the nomad community told Salam Watandar that the armed locals in Babrak Tana and Ali Sher areas have blocked their access to Khost city. Waheed and Gul, two representatives of the nomads, said this blockade has caused shortages of food items, and has denied them access to health facilities in the city putting the lives of many vulnerable members of their community at risk.

Meanwhile, the locals claim the nomads have illegally occupied their lands that is why they would not lift the blockade until the nomads leave their property.

The provincial governor Mubarez Mohammad Zadran has said in this regard that a commission has been formed to resolve the issue.

Such disputes over land often take place in Khost. Few months ago, a delegation of 83 people from Kabul went to Khost to resolve tribal feuds, however, the residents said the delegation failed.
