No voter registration center in eight districts of Faryab

07/06/2018

MAIMANA (SW): The voter registration centers remained closed in eight out of 14 districts in Faryab province due to insecurity, an official informed on Thursday.

Abdul Ahad Elbaig, member of the provincial council, charged the government is not serious to open these registration centers, and has deliberately kept them closed.

Meanwhile, Amanullah Aman, provincial head of the Independent Election Commission (IEC), has clarified that the voter registration centers are closed only in Dawlat Abad, Khawaja Sabz Posh and Kohistan districts. He has blamed insecurity for the closure of these centers.

The governor of Dawlat Abad district, Syed Dawood, has confirmed that not a single voter registration center is functional here. He added clashes are underway here, and the Taliban are present at a distance of few hundred miles from the district administration compound.

However, Abdul Kareem Yourish, spokesman for the police, has asserted that the voter registration centers are active all over the province, and there are no security impedements.
