KABUL (SW): In a second attack of the sort in the country, a suicide blast rocked the capital Kabul on Saturday.
The Ministry of Defense (MoD) has confirmed the death of at least 12 people, mostly civilian following a suicide attack in the capital. According to a communiqué, the attacker blew himself up near the MoD alongside the Kabul River this afternoon. It noted that besides the three employee of the MoD, nine civilians lost lives in the incident. The injured were immediately rushed to the Wazir Akbar Khan Hospital, it added.
Zabehullah Mujahid, a Taliban spokesman, has claimed responsibility for the attack in Kabul. In a message on Twiiter, he claimed that attack saw a number of Afghan National Army (ANA) men dead.
Earlier, a suicide attacker riding a motorcycle blew himself in the eastern Kunar province killing at least 15 people. It too inflicted heavy toll upon the civilians.
According to the United Nation Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), more than 3,500 civilians died and nearly 7,500 others wounded in 2015.
“Anti-Government Elements continued to cause the most harm – 62 percent of all civilian casualties – despite a 10 percent reduction from 2014 in the total civilian casualties resulting from their attacks,” it said.
