KABUL (SW): After US President Donald Trump rejected the idea of ‘peace talks’ with the Taliban after the recent deadly attacks in Afghanistan, the National Unity Government (NUG) has also announced its firm will to defeat Taliban in the battlefields.
Shah Hussain Mortazawi, spokesperson for the President told Salam Watandar that previously President Ashraf Ghani had set a limited time for the peace talks with the Taliban; however, they did not use this opportunity and conversely intensified their attacks on the government and innocent civilians.
“The Taliban have crossed the ‘red line’ with the attacks on Kabul and ruined the possibility of peace talks. The government is determined to defeat them in the battlefields and bring peace to Afghanistan”, said Mr. Mortazawi.
President Donald Trump told visiting members of the U.N. Security Council on Monday the U.S. would no longer talk with the Taliban following a recent string of deadly attacks in Afghanistan.
“I don’t see any talking taking place. I don’t think we’re prepared to talk right now. It’s a whole different fight over there. They’re killing people left and right. Innocent people are being killed left and right, we will finish what we have to finish”, President Trump told reporters.
Atta Ullah Ludin, member of High Peace Council said the Taliban had already shown their willingness to talk to the US; however, the US President Donald Trump finally rejected the idea of peace talks with them.
Previously, the HPC had repeatedly called on the Taliban to enter into the peace talks with the government officials; however, the group has failed to respond positively to the government’s demand.
In the latest attack, the Taliban targeted the Ministry of Interior killing 103 and wounding more than 235 civilians.
“He (Donald Trump) will turn Afghanistan into a cemetery for Americans”, Zabiullah Mujahid, Taliban spokesperson said in a statement in retaliation to the U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent remarks.
