No one can abuse children and women anymore; MoJ

KABUL (SW): Officials at the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) informed that on the basis of the Law on the Prohibition of Abuse of Women and Children, the High Commission for the Prevention of the Abuse of Women and Children led by the Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs, Martyrs and Disabled (MoLSAMD) will be created soon.

On the basis of this law, government agencies, provincial councils, and district councils are required to establish a committee to fight abuse of women and children.

Aman Rezayat, spokesperson for the MoJ said today at a news conference in Kabul that the purpose of the law is to support victims of violence, providing a safe work environment and education environment as well as providing access to healthcare without harassment to women and children.

Under the law, victims or their representatives can file a written complaint with the police, the court, and with the provincial council and district councils.

Rezayat added that with the adoption of the law prohibiting the harassment and abuse of women and children, provisions related to abuse and harassment of women and children, and clauses of law related to the harassment of women and children have been abolished.

In the law on harassment of women and children, physical contact, illegitimate demands, verbal and non-verbal abuse and any act that causes physical and mental harm is defined as harassment and abuse.

According to the officials at the MoJ, the Law on the Prohibition of Abuse of Women and Children is based on Articles 24 and 54 of the Constitution, comprised of three chapters and 29 articles.
