KABUL (SW): President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani made it clear on Sunday that no one would be allowed to interfere in appointments related to the security sector of the country.

Chairing his security team, Ghani said this while discussing state of south eastern parts of the country via video conference with Maj. Gen. Mohammad Sharif Yaftali, Commander of the 203-Thunder Corps. The President stressed the security forces would bravely deter heinous plans by the enemies of Afghanistan.

A communiqué by the Arg (Presidential Palace) stated that the President later directed head of the Independent Directorate of Local Government (IDLG) to strictly pursue merit while making appointments. It added that the meeting expressed contentment over state of security in this part of the country.

The President also directing the provincial governors to expedite the recruitment drive for the Afghan National Police (ANP) and the Afghan National Army (ANA) in the south east. Ghani’s remarks about not allowing anyone to interfere in security affairs came at a time when voices have been raised about the presence of “fifth pillar” within the state.

Some analysts believe elements within the government actually support the militants and prohibit the government forces from launching offensives against the rebels.
