KABUL (SW): The Free and Fair Election Foundation of Afghanistan (FEFA) noted on Wednesday that out of the 25 articles of the Political Parties Act, not even a single article corresponds to the share, rights and privileges of women.
The FEFA has asked the National Unity Government to modify this law. At a conference aimed to strengthen women’s political participation, Mariam Arwin Barakzai, the head of the women and youth affairs at FEFA, said that the recommendations of women’s rights advocacy group, which consisted of government representatives, political parties and civil society activists showed that this law does not secures the rights and privileges of women and hence, it shall be modified.
Mrs. Barakzai, referring to the articles of the Political Parties Act, said the dearth of women’s presence at the key government positions, and their symbolic role in some administrative units and political parties are the main challenges hindering women’s political emancipation.
At this meeting, Abdullah Abudllah, the CEO of the National Unity Government, also stressed upon the role and importance of women in political activities, saying that parties that do not consider women’s role seriously and do not bank on women’s power in their political activities, will not have a bright future.
